Men & Self-Care
Hey! Why don't we talk about men and the importance for self-care more? This is a topic many people shy away from and fail to highlight how important self-care is for men. Many don't think of self-care as a requirement and some say it's a luxury. Well, I'm here to tell you that self-care is a requirement and that includes MEN. Acutally, it's not a woman thing, a man thing, a thing for the rich and famous. Everyone should practice self-care, but let's keep our focus on men right now.
Why Men Need Self Care
- Self-care is about promoting and increasing your overall mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. Self-care is about putting activities in place now in order to strengthen your base. If life is like a pyramid the stronger your base is the less likely it is you will fall.
Self-care is worth making a priority because:
It improves your physical and mental health
It decreases your stress levels and the negative impact of stress on your body
It connects you to what your body is telling you about your health It makes you more resilient
It helps keep creativity and performance up
It helps you feel more well rested
It inspires others around you to take time for themselves as well
In choosing your self-care ritual, it’s important to find what fits you, because self-care is a highly personal thing and will look different for everyone. - Because self-care has always been thought of (and marketed) as something practiced primarily by women, men are behind the curve and may not even know where to begin. No worries, we have you back. Check out some tips below that will help you do self-care better. You can thank us by treating yourself with a purchase of one of our "Gentleman" self-care box today.
Tips For Men & Self-Care
Create a routine
Routines will help you to create time for things that matter to you and help you to be as productive as possible! If you go through any type of anxiety, long or short term stress, routines help take some of that pressure off your shoulders. When things are already planned and set, it takes away the worries that uncertainty can cause.
The beauty of a routine is that you create it for yourself. You can choose to fill it with whatever you want: meditation, journaling, coffee, reading, you name it. A routine will create structure and will support you and your tasks.
Tips to create a routine
1. Make a list of things that you have to do and want to do
2. Structure your list by prioritizing important tasks
3. Distribute your tasks into different parts of the day (Morning, Afternoon, Evening)
4. When that's done, set a specific time for each things you have to do. This way, you don’t run out of time (or, if you do, at least you tried your best not to!)
5. Test it for a week and, if it doesn’t work for you, don't be afraid to make changes!
Be kind to yourself and to others.
Take time for things you love. Do something beneficial for you. Wether it's for immediate satisfaction or an investment for the future.
